Care & maintenance

If you maintain natural stone properly, you'll be rewarded for years to come. Use common sense and the following tips to keep your stone looking and feeling its best:

Worktops
Once your worktop has been correctly sealed, you shouldn't have to worry about staining. You should take extra care with anything acidic, however, such as alcohol, carbonated drinks, coffee and juice. Wipe spills quickly.

There are plenty of speciality cleaners on the market, but be sure to only use pH neutral products.

Floors
The best way to keep your stone floor in great condition is to keep it as free from dirt as possible. Ground in grit will eventually cause the surface to dull. You can help prevent this by using recommended care products. And sweep regularly with a dry dust mop. If you use a vacuum cleaner, make sure its bottom doesn't scratch the floor.

Again, you'll find many speciality cleaners that are both affordable and easy to use.

To restore the original shine of polished floors, say, you may like to get them professionally restored. But natural stone is not a material that needs a lot of attention to keep it looking good. It's one of the few building materials to age wonderfully with use. Removing water and etch marks is simple and inexpensive. As is applying additional sealer every few years.
